Philadelphia, PA - Figure skating champion, style icon and media darling, Johnny Weir, will be the celebrity guest and National HERO Award recipient at The Delaware Valley Legacy Fund's HEROES event on Sunday, May 19th, 2013.

Johnny Weir is a prominent member of the LGBT community. Aside from competing in the Olympic Games for the United States and starring in his own reality show, Johnny has been a passionate force in the community raising awareness and educating the public about a multitude of gay issues. Recently, in 2012, Johnny represented the United States as a Goodwill Sporting Ambassador to Japan under Hilary Clinton and met with local LGBT leaders and taught a free figure skating clinic to all, in hopes of raising awareness of LGBT issues in Asia. Johnny is now preparing for his chance at a third Olympics and will be the only OUT gay Olympian to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

"We are so honored to have Johnny Weir join us as we celebrate those individuals and organizations whose remarkable efforts help to advance the LGBT community", said Wayne Knaub, HEROES chair and DVLF board member.

We are all looking forward to this year's event", said Mark Mitchell, DVLF Board President. "I can't think of a more appropriate celebrity guest and event to kick off the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund's 20th anniversary."

Founded in 1993, the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund (DVLF) strives to increase philanthropy and grantmaking to support the community needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) and straight-allied communities. DVLF advances philanthropy for the LGBTI community through endowment building, fundraising, community outreach and education.

"This was a perfect time for me to join the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund", said Samantha Giusti, DVLF Executive Director. "I can't help but be overwhelmed by the renewed sense of energy and focus being felt throughout the entire organization."

HEROES 2013 takes place on Sunday, May 19th, 2013 from noon to 3:00 PM at the new Hotel Monaco located at 433 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia. After HEROES, the celebration continues with Johnny Weir at Fire&Ice from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Tickets for HEROES 2013 and the After Party can be purchased online at www.dvlf.org.
