Meet the Mr Gay Philadelphia Contestants

Miss Information sees al and knows all. I’m a gossip queen that keeps your fellow Philly homos informed!

Miss Information is back! Now you might ask yourself, what would draw Miss Information back to writing again – well cute boys of course! NightLifeGay is holding it’s 3rd Annual Mr Gay Philadelphia contest on April 18. Sexy local boys from around the area will compete to wear the crown of Mr Gay Philadelphia and head to LA to represent our loving city for the national competition.

Bruce Yelk from NightLifeGay has outdone himself, as he always does, for an amazing events filled with hot boys, great performances, famous stars and more sex apeal than you can shake a wig at!

Once again Frank DeCaro from Sirius Satellite Radio, and local drag personality extraordinaire, Brittany Lynn, will co-host the event. I stopped that fabulous drag diva to find out what she is looking for in a Mr Gay Philadelphia.

"A great Mr. Gay is like a great cocktail – equal amounts of hotness and heart, splash of sincerity, and a twist of kink – hold the queeny mannerisms…oh, and a cock so big if I hold my ear up to it I could hear the ocean…"

Miss Information sat down with the sexy and delicious winner from last year, John Caputo to ask about his experiance.

"Being Mr. Gay Philadelphia has been a great honor. I was very proud to go the the national competition and represent Philadelphia. Eevn though I lost it has been a great and positive experiance that i will cherish for the rest of my life.

"It has taught me to never give up on something that you believe in despite what people say. All of the support that i had between my family and freinds has been a great inspiration in my life. One freind in particular Josh Tolin who did not give up on me and helped me become the man i am today.

"The whole experiance overall has taught me that despite what society may think of the GLBT community, you should never be ashamed of who you are and stand up for what you believe in. I am very proud of who i am, and proud to be a Gay Man."

And what does last year’s Mr Gay Philadelphia think will make a great Mr Gay Philadelpha 2009?

"I believe that what the judges should look for is someone who is well rounded, well spoken, freindly, kind, outgoing, a strong individual with a sense of pride. Someone who is proud to be who they are and who is true to themselves."

As always, we have collected some of the sexiest, nicest, and sweetest boys to compete and represent us well! Miss information sat down with the boys (sometimes on their laps) to find out what makes them the classic Mr Gay Philadelphia – let’s see what these sexy boys have to say:

Mr PhillyGayCalendar - Nathan

Nathan – Mr PhillyGayCalendar

"Mr. Gay Philadelphia should be a social member of our community. He should be approachable yet idealized. He should be confident and expressive. He should lead this community with a free spirit as well as respect. It’s a good thing that sums me up in a nut shell. If I had the great honor of representing this community as Mr. Gay Philadelphia I would use my individuality to relate to people. As a social member of Philadelphia’s gay community I would use my time not only to have fun but to listen and help Philadelphia’s gay people.

"There are so many great events this city has to offer I cannot think of an event more worth celebrating than Gay Pride. What better reason to celebrate than the pride we have in ourselves. We have come so far in this world; Gay Pride is the best time to celebrate ourselves not only as a community but as unique individuals of this great city.

"As an educator I would put my teaching skills to use. As Mr. Gay Philadelphia my focus would be educating, especially young gay citizens, on the prevention and consequences of sexually transmitted diseases. Safe sex education is important in any community not just the gay community. I would work with community health centers to develop dynamic and interesting ways to educate the community on the importance of safe sex and health. We only have one body in this world it’s important to be educated on how to nurture and protect it

Mr Bump - Michael Michael – Mr Bump

"I would make a good Mr. Gay Philly because I represent the gay community with pride in my everyday life. I am not ashamed of my sexuality. I feel that the Philadelphia LGBT community helped me find myself and become the person I am today.

"My favorite party of the LGBT community is definitely Outfest!!!! It’s a huge event that allows us to enjoy the company of others in the gay community. I also enjoy the creative entertainment presented by talented drag queens, dancers, comedians, singers, etc. The many booths that advertise positive information about the gay lifestyle and different events happening in the community makes the festival not just about having fun but showing those outside our community how normal we truly are.

"I will continue to attend every big LGBT event to show my support for my community. I also hope that other people in the LGBT community feel comfortable enough to approach me and know that i have an open ear if they are looking for guidance, advice, or just a friend.

Mr Bump - Michael Michael – Mr Pure

"I would be a great role model to the LGBT community, by representing the gay community positively, and be an example of compassion towards one another, our community and beyond.

"My favorite event is Equality Forum, it brings people together to advance our causes within the structure of local and state government and federal government.

"I will participate, spread the word, and be involved, in charitable causes for the gay community, aids awareness, and gender equality awareness.

Mr Bump - Michael Thom – Mr Woody’s

"I would make an excellent Mr. Gay Philly because I can measure it by my charitable contributions. My roots are here in Philadelphia and I would be proud to serve the LGBT communities.

"Outfest is my favorite party in Philly’s LGBT community. Not only did I have the opportunity to go to the event, but for the last 2 years, I had the great pleasure to perform at Outfest. I feel it is important for us to come together and to celebrate the progress we have made as LGBT people. Because we are still oppressed, it’s important for us to continue to unite as LGBT people and LGBT allies to show we are not going anywhere.

"Having the title of Mr. Gay Philadelphia, I plan to support our local communities. Such as the William Way Center and the Mazzoni Center. These centers provide the less fortunate members of our community a chance to seek medical attention and give comfort to LGBT people. I also plan to increase awareness in state wide issues and national issues, such as gay marriage and HIV/AID funding."

Charlie – Mr Travel Matters

"I feel I would make an excellent candidate for Mr. Gay Philly because I am always positive, friendly and outgoing to anyone in the Philadelphia community. Philadelphia is a place like no other, and I would love to represent Mr. Gay Philadelphia as one of the locals who help make this beautiful city what it is.

"I love the events that they put on outside for the community such as Equality Forum and Outfest. I think they are great ideas to get friends together and enjoy a great time. Tommy at Tavern on Camac is one of my favorite bartenders – He makes some good drinks and always makes you have a great time!

" Being a personal trainer and nutrition consultant for the Philadelphia-Bucks County area, I will continue to promote and offer my services to the LGBT community. This will help them live healthier, be more positive, and live their lives to the fullest. Not to mention looking lean and mean."

"Mr. Gay Philadelphia is something I would love to represent, not because I think I’m better but just because it took me a long time to except being this way and I can never look back. A friend of mine said to me one day that when you finally become openly gay it would change your world and I love it and I will never rewind the clock. I would love to change the stereotype of what people think we are, everytime I walk in a room I leave a great impression of what gay is.

"I support every party I’m invited to in Philly so I don’t have a specific one but I love Penn Relay weekend because it allows us to represent our city to other cities and I love again changing the perception.

"As Mr Gay Philadelphia I will continue to promote Gay rights and try my best to volunteer time for causes that helps our gay community. There are a lot of kids coming up that really need our help, HIV is not the only problem so it would be great to help in every way I can and I know I will."

"I think I would be a good Mr. Gay Philadelphia because I feel I am a good representation of the LGBT community here in Philly. I have been a part of the LGBT community here in Philly for the last 10 years. We are a very diverse group. We are black, white, Hispanic, young, old, Catholic, Jewish, democrat & republicans but one thing that we all have in common is that we are gay and we are proud. I also feel that philanthropy is important to being Mr. Gay Philadelphia and it is important to me as well. I am suggesting we support all the existing walks, benefits, charities, and auctions that our offered here in Philadelphia. We need to stand up and work together to get things done.

"Shampoo has been my home for the last 10 years. I have met the greatest people there over the years and I still love going to work every week. I have seen. My favorite once a year party is definitely SundayOUT. I love how we as a community come out in such large numbers. That day I always feel like the "gays" own Philly. It’s a blast!!!!

"As Mr. Gay Philadelphia I will try positively effect the local LGBT Community through AWARENESS. There are so many different events this city offers and we do not give our full support to. I can’t think of another city that has: Equality Forum, Pride, OUTfest, Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Blue Ball, Gay Rodeo, and now of course for the last 3 years Mr. Gay Philadelphia.

Nicolas – Mr Stir

"I am lion in every sense of the word. I am hardworking, strong willed, motivated, opinionated, loyal, talented, and I never quit. Ohhh ya!! and my sign is LEO.

"The best part of the Philly Gay community is the HONESTY. Philly LGBT folks give it to you like it is. Love us or hate us, no matter what you have to respect us.

"As a 2008 Soulforce Q Equality Rider I went to the south (BIBLE BELT) and advocated for Gay and Transgendered rights in Christian Universities. The goal was to help end religious oppression against LGBT students. I plan on doing the same type of work in Philly, in non-affirming churches."

Tim – Mr 101

"I would make a good Mr. Gay Philadeplhia because I would represent the LGBT Community on a positive level representing love for yourself, love for eachother straight or gay, and a positive attitude in being who your are inside and out.

"I love how much fun it is to be gay! It’s never a dull moment. There’s always somethin going on. The gays know how to have a good time! I would never change who I was for anything!!

"I’d like to positvely influence the local LGBT Community I would do what I can to push the acceptance of the lesbien and gay community in all parts of the city not just the typical "gayborhood".

Jonathan – Mr Tavern on Camac

"I would make a fantastic Mr. Gay Philadelphia because I represent the young professional gay population. I feel I could show this through my charisma, warmth, and confidence.

" My favorite part of the Philly LGBT community is the social networks (Pride festivals, Equality Forum, Outfest, Philadelphia Gay Tourism Caucus, and the IBA, etc) of gay Philadelphia that welcome new members with open arms and band together to support the community as a whole.

"I will represent the community as Mr. Gay Philadelphia by supporting local events, promoting gay owned/friendly businesses, and being an overall positive role model to my fellow gay peers. "
