Philadelphia Gay Theatre Festival Gets World Premiere of New Play by Daniel Talbott, ‘Someone Brought Me’

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

Philadelphia’s GayFest hosts the world premiere production of playwright Daniel Talbott’s moving gay drama, Someone Brought Me.   Talbott’s play, composed especially for GayFest, plays at Second Stage at the Adrienne Theatre from August 15 through the 24.

Someone Brought Me, which is directed by GayFest’s executive producer, Rich Rubin, features regional actors Calvin Atkinson, Ben Storey, and Dexter Anderson.

Audiences familiar with GayFest may have seen Talbott’s work in previous years; the festival produced Slipping in 2011 and Mike and Seth in 2012.  In this new futuristic work, audiences are transported to “somewhere in a city that used to be New York,” according to the play’s producers.  “A world famous photographer and his down-at-the-heels former lover meet in a ruined bar in this new world where the gulf is even wider between the haves and have-nots. As they relive their relationship, their pasts, and the history and pre-history of what used to be our world, they question the very nature of fame, feeling, and freedom. A street kid poses for the photographer and, perhaps, awakens him once again to the possibility of kindness in this ruined and unforgiving world.”

Someone Brought Me features sets designed by Danielle Ferguson, lighting by Eric Baker, and costumes by John Hodges.

Second Stage at the Adrienne Theatre is located at 2030 Sansom Street in Philadelphia.  For more information, or to purchase tickets, please visit www.quinceproductions.com or call 215-627-1088.
