Dames at Sea is Gay, Gay, Gay!

Although retired since 2014, I still relish opportunities to teach, write, and share opinions.
The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania, is now presenting the fabulous musical Dames at Sea until September 11.

Dames at Sea has Book and Lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller, Music by Jim Wise, with Direction and Choreography by Randy Skinner.

The show has it all, from tap dancing chorus girls, to tap dancing sailors, tap dancing dollar signs, tap dancing all the time! Confetti shooting across the poop deck at climaxes. You will also experience pretty girls fainting, seductresses vamping, a wrecking ball, sailors who all know how to be chorus boys. It’s the 1930s, with a letter written to FDR thanking him for his Navy! If this gem were any brighter, lighter, or breezier, It would be marooned on Gilligan’s Island. Thankfully for us it’s in the lovely, intimate Bucks County Playhouse which is celebrating its tenth anniversary renovation after it was nearly washed away by the Delaware River.

Everyone on stage wants to get married; Even to members of the opposite sex.

All this fabulousness is realized by six spectacularly talented singing actors: Lesli Margherita is Mona Kent; Byron St. Cyr is both the producer Hennesy and The Captain; Julie Kavanaugh is Joan; Daisy Wright is Ruby; Daniel Plimpton is Dick; and Drew King is Lucky.

Over all too quickly, you will find yourself walking on air outside the theatre. You will become Christina Aguillera! You will start singing! You break into her famed anthem, “I Just Want To Be In This Moment!” You will tap dance, whirling over to your parked car and Pit Bull.
