Established in 2004, Project SAFE is a grassroots, peer-based harm reduction collective organizing with and providing services to women, queer, and trans people living and working in Kensington’s street economies. The all-volunteer group runs outreach along Kensington Avenue distributing harm reduction supplies and food, a home delivery program, and Nightshade, a weekly community meeting open to anyone who identifies as a sex worker.
Project SAFE also maintains a bad-date alert sheet to help sex workers watch out for dangerous clients, and advocates for the decriminalization of both sex work and drug use, working from the belief that people deserve dignity and autonomy regardless of how they make ends meet.
