PRIDE in context: How to be an LGBTQIA+ ally in the history of PRIDE

DateWednesday, June 9, 2021
Time6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, & Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Pride has a long history in the United States. The modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement is considered to have its origin at the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City. Many well intentioned straight and cis-gender people are interested in being an ally and standing in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ people, but aren’t sure how to do so. This workshop will provide a succinct history of PRIDE, an overview of oppression and PRIDE advocacy, and ways to be a straight or cis-gender ally right here in Haddon Township.

At the conclusion of this workshop, you will:

  • Increase your knowledge of LGBTQIA+ PRIDE;
  • Examine American history of LGBTQIA+ PRIDE and its relationship to oppression and advocacy;
  • Explore ways to support LGBTQIA+ people as a straight or cis-gender ally.
