Celebrate Pride through hands-on craft at Spoon Carving Workshop with Artist Kate Hawes, part of the Museum for Art in Wood’s Queering Wood Craft programming. This in-person workshop invites participants to explore the meditative, tactile art of spoon carving while learning safe and effective techniques using traditional Swedish tools, including the Sloyd knife and hook knife. Guided by woodworker and educator Kate Hawes, attendees will shape green wood spoon blanks into functional, curving forms while connecting with others through a shared creative practice.

Presented as part of the Museum’s broader Queering Wood Craft initiative, this workshop highlights LGBTQIA+ visibility, community, and artistry within woodworking. The program offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Pride, learn a traditional handcraft, and engage with a growing movement that centers queer makers in the field of wood art and craft.
