A and Z are former childhood friends recovering from compulsory heterosexuality and the abrupt, mysterious ending of their friendship many years ago. In Sister of Mine, they imagine a series of encounters in which they unexpectedly meet the other after substantial time apart, exposing embedded longings, secrets, and betrayals. Each of the eight scenes alternates between A and Z’s fantasies, interrogating the boundary between fiction and fact in an attempt to answer the play’s central question–what did split these two individuals apart? A love letter to the intricacy of first queer friendship, Sister of Mine is also a meditation on the queer experience of searching for an identity within a world that both imposes and resists categorization.
