USA Women’s Basketball Olympic Block Party Watch Party Event in Philly
PHILADELPHIA – Watch Party PHL, a monthly women’s sports watch party, will host a US Women’s Basketball Olympic Watch Party and Block Party this Sunday. We will be cheering on USA Basketball team member, Kahleah Cooper from North Philly and USA Women’s Head Coach, Cheryl Reeve from Washington Township, NJ.
We are excited to announce that we will again be partnering with Working Families PA. The Working Families Party’s (WFP)Basketball House brand seeks to build political power for the multiracial working class by cultivating connection in our fandoms and making collective civic engagement convenient, accessible, and fun. WNBA supporters are the most socially progressive of all sports fans. The WNBPA was the first women’s sports union to successfully negotiate a collective bargaining agreement, while WNBA players have led on activism addressing racial justice, police reform, gender equity and more.
The Watch Party will be at Two Locals Brewery in University City. Two Locals is the first Black owned brewery in Philadelphia. There will be food trucks, a basketball net set up and USA swag giveaways. WFP will also be registering voters during the event.
“This will be our third Olympic watch party since the games began” said Jen Leary, Watch Party PHL host. “People have been showing up in numbers and are excited to cheer on the women who are representing the USA. This next one is going to be special because we get to cheer for one of Philly’s own.” said Leary.
This event will take place on Sunday, August 4th at Two Locals Brewery. Event starts at 10a, and the game starts at 11a. Tickets are available on Eventbrite or at the door.
