Philadelphia -
The Delaware Valley Legacy Fund (DVLF) Board of Directors announced that Juan Franco will serve as the organization’s new executive director, starting July 2.

“Our board is thrilled to have Juan on board,” said Fernando Gonzalez, board president.  “He has a track record of relationship-building and results in both his professional and volunteer work. We know that he will play a key role in fostering philanthropy by and for our diverse and vibrant LGBTQ community in the years ahead.”

“I’m honored and excited to be helping lead an organization that has met - and continues to meet - the emerging needs of our LGBTQ communities,” said Franco. “I look forward to building strong bridges with current and potential donors as well as grantees, partners, community leaders, and others.”

Over the past five years, Franco has become deeply involved in Greater Philadelphia’s LGBTQ communities.

Professionally, he worked most recently for Temple University’s School of Social Work on HIV prevention and communications strategies in underserved Latinx and other communities. This involved building relationships with the Philadelphia Office of LGBTQ Affairs, William Way Community Center, and many other nonprofits and businesses. He also has experience as a navigation specialist at the Mazzoni Center and as a congestive-heart-failure outreach worker and interpreter for Spanish-speaking patients at Temple University Hospital.

In regards to volunteerism, Franco has led fundraising, sponsorship, marketing, event planning, and related efforts for the Philadelphia Falcons LGBT+ Soccer Club. Also, as Co-Chair of the Latinx Institute’s host committee for the National LGBTQ Task Force “Creating Change” conference, he helped launch an ambassadors program and raised funds to cover costs for attendees from marginalized communities. He has also leveraged his passion for photography in support of events such as the Philadelphia Trans Health Conference.

Franco holds a bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in cognitive neuroscience from Temple University and is completing a master’s degree in urban bioethics, also from Temple.

“I want to thank the community leaders in our search committee who played a crucial role in this process,” said Gonzalez. In addition to Gonzalez, the group included Dante Austin, John Cunningham, Gloria Melunis, John Moeller, and Evan Thornburg.
