Not seen locally, we have the opportunity to see the Town and Country Players present Titanic: The Musical in lovely Buckingham, Pennsylvania until July 26, 2025.
This Sunday matinee was said to be completely sold out by Brad Ogden, the Director, when he addressed the audience.
Titanic: The Musical wasfirst performed on Broadway April 1997, and won five Tony Awards. With Story and Book by Peter Stone, and Music and Lyrics by Maury Yeston, it has had great success in many productions.
The musical tells the story of the people who were on the maiden voyage of the doomed luxury liner Titanic, which sank in the northern Atlantic on April 15, 1912, claiming the lives of 1,517 men, women, and children in the freezing waters. Ignoring repeated iceberg warnings to make New York in record time ultimately doomed the luxury liner.
We meet characters from all walks of life, from the fabulously wealthy Astors, Isidore and Ida Straus, to Guggenheims, to those in second class, and those immigrants in steerage, with Captain, and crew.
The actors and actresses were uniformly fine in this large cast. Audience favorites included Lee Damon, Jon Knapp, Maria Pfender Seifert, Sean McFarland, David Swartz, and Theresa Swartz.
Evocative and crisp Set Design was by David Sharper, of whom it was said was celebrating his 42nd season here. By all appearances from his photo in his biography, he must have joined the troupe when he was a teenager. Scott Monsees, Lighting and Sound Designer, displayed his skills splendidly. Live music enlivened the story.
Town and Country Players now boast a truly fine ADA-compliant entrance, which makes access a pleasure. Of course, they welcome any and all contributions to fully fund the capital improvements to the converted 250-year-old barn which is their home now in the company’s 78th season.
By all means, see Titanic: The Musical. It’s a fabulous production, that will leave you emotionally moved and gratified.
Next at Town and Country Players is Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution, on stage September 19 through October 4.
