Camac Martini Bar

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

I’m very excited to be reporting on local events for PhillyGayCalendar.

That being said I could not wait to go out and officially report on my first event. So I do like all the rest of the locals do. I went to http://phillygaycalendar.com/ – clicked the calendar tab- and saw what was happening that night. I was surprised to see that the night was full of events! I was hard pressed to pick just one. To my surprise and pleasure there was a happy hour going on at the Camac Martini Bar 1305 Locust Street (at 13th & Locust) 215-545-1040.

Camac Martini Bar is a beautiful little spot located in the heart of Philly’s Gayborhood. The front of the building is a little bit misleading, from the appearance of the dark glass windows you might think it was a classic Philly dive, but when you walk in the door you’re immediately greeted by the glorious smell of brick oven Pizza and scented candles.

Inside they are well equipped with two bars. The main bar sits slightly further back from the glass overlooking 13Th street and has a beautiful electronic waterfall framing the liquor display. Our bar tenders name was John Russo. He was a devilishly handsome late 30’s classic Philly guy with a gently humorous manor. The patrons at the bar were an eclectic mix of 20-50 something men, all well dressed and groomed. From my perch on the end of the bar facing the rear I could see the fire of the brick oven pizza and found it quite enjoyable and comforting.

I ordered a Blue moon bottle $4 and had it in a tall glass. They have an extensive selection of bottles available, a wide range of wines and the classic selection of spirits on the wall. After enjoying my Blue moon with some of the local patrons I noticed that happy hour had begun in full swing. The bar had filled and the laughter began to bellow from all corners of the room. I ordered a classic Martini, and my Friend decided to sample a brick oven buffalo chicken $6 pizza. The pizza was beyond our wildest expectations.

The night was fantastic, the bar was stylish and amazing. Its patrons were warm, friendly and inviting and the food was out of this world. I managed to meet some new friends and made it out alive with only a $10 tab for 4 hours of fun. All in all I rate this bar a 10 on my 1-10 scale. I would recommend it to anyone in town who is looking for a quiet night, cheap drinks and good food.
