Those Last 10 Pounds…UGH

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

Most people these days, have it all wrong when it comes to losing the ‘last few pounds’. You ask, ” …and why is it always stored in those ‘problem areas’.” People come up to me all the time and say, “I work out every day for at LEAST and hour or more. I feel like I do cardio and weights for hours on end, why isn’t this weight coming off.” My answer to Anastasia Beaverhausen is because what you are doing is wrong.

You are driving your metabolism into the ground. Yes, the gym does stimulate your metabolism, but too much for too long can have reverse effects… causing you to over train and ruin your efforts. When you say you only eat 1800 calories a day, yet you really are burning up to 3,000 calories with your daily activity levels – aka work and what not PLUS your gym activity. The caloric deficiency is 1,200 calories, otherwise known as a LOT, way too much. Your body is starving and it will hold on to every bit of fat you have until you are fatter, and you will have no one to thank but yourself. Unfortunately, the only way to loose weight is calories in verse your calories out. It is really that simple. So find out truly how many calories you burn, and do it right and forget the non sense out on the market.

You see your body works in awesome ways. Those last few pounds actually has to deal with manipulating your body’s natural hormonal levels to produce a favorable environment for your body to loose that last few, and keep it off. Your body produces two awesome hormones – Lepitin (your hormone that says I am full), and Growth Hormone (your fat burning, muscle building, anti aging hormone)… when these levels in your body are high you can effectively burn fat.

So who doesn’t want these levels high? Well, what Anastasia Beaverhausen did was drop them to the ground and play badminton with them. When you have such a large caloric deficiency your body raises Cortisol… HORRIBLE FOR YOU. This hormone eats away at muscle, slows your metabolism, and holds onto your body fat essentially… and holds onto it in places you don’t want. Think your belly for guys, butt, thighs, and ladies, underarm flab… So, do yourself a favor and start making some positive lifestyle changes!!!!

When you eat low glycemic carbohydrates (think FIBER) your Leptin levels are high aka GOOD. If Leptin is high, so is Growth Hormone aka burn fat, build muscle, look hot, banging bod. Mmm Mmm finger lickin’ good, and no not KFC. When you eat processed carbs, think white bread, cheese-its, just BAD BAD STUFF, otherwise known as a ‘HIGH glycemic carbohydrate’ your leptin levels are low. Therefore, your natural growth hormone levels (that are produced by your pituitary gland) are low. Combine that with not eating often, and having a large caloric deficiency your Cortisol levels are skyrocketed and you are one big fat ugly mess.

Long story, short….When you eat closer to your base caloric level (yet, still in a slight deficiency) and burn extra through your activity with resistance exercise and high intensity cardio, your body thinks it is still getting fed, so it will freely loose those last few pounds with the excess activity from working out. And think…. if you work out and have a clean, healthy diet AKA get the processed carbs out and avoid sugar… focus on lean proteins, whole grains, and natural healthy fats… you might gain some muscle and/or tone up and lose body fat. And there you have it!
