This is the second in a series of interviews with the inaugural class of Mint Voyagers from the Distinctive Officers Program of the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund (DVLF). 

Jason Lewis is the Communications Specialist/Community Liason for Councilwoman At-Large Blondell Reynolds Brown. He is a 30 year old Lancaster County native, who states that he is “still on cloud 9 after my boss, Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown came in #1 in the Democratic Primary with more votes than any candidate for City Council.”

PGC: Tell me about you.

Jason: I am a former Talent Agent (5 years)-represented actors in Broadway/National Touring productions, TV, Film & Commercials. I am a lifetime political junkie and reality TV aficionado. My DVR is split between reality shows, anything Bravo, and political talk shows-Meet the Press, Hardball, McLaughlin Group etc. I always joke that if you looked at my DVR, you would think Paris Hilton and Nancy Pelosi were roommates. 

PGC: What group were you in and who is your mentor?

Jason: I was on Team Emerge, led by John Moeller, Executive Director of Delaware Valley Legacy Fund. I asked two communications geniuses who are leading the way in my field: Jeff Guaracino, VP of Communications for Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation and Desiree Peterkin-Bell, Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships for Mayor Michael Nutter.

PGC: How did you get into the program?

Jason: I was recommended by someone (not sure who), received an email and I said yes. Simple as that. Again, i am going to take artistic license here and say that I am sure that Jason would love to thank you over dinner. Right, Jason?

PGC: Tell me what you want people to know about your experience in the program.

Jason: I loved the program. It taught me to take ownership of what I do well, but opened my eyes to learn about what others do well. Working in City Hall, I had a skewed perception that all emerging LGBT leaders are interested or involved in the political bubble that I’m around (and love) every day. I ended up being the only political staffer in the room full of 20 uniquely different stars with areas of expertise that never crossed my mind before. It taught me that leadership is not a cookie cutter thing.
