Mint Voyagers: Tawana Grayson

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

Ms. Tawana Grayson, owner of The Philadelphia Firebirds, a women’s tackle football team, on Team Emerge, is one of the first people to “graduate” from The Distinctive Officer’s Program.

PGC:  Tell me about you.

Tawana: I guess I’ll start from the very beginning, my name is Tawana L. Grayson, and my age I will pass on.  A few things about me, I am the owner of The Philadelphia Firebirds, a women’s tackle football team, I am an avid gardener, it’s where I find my peace.   I cannot dance at all and no matter how much I try, my rhythm does not match the song’s rhythm.

PGC:  What was your experience in this program?

Tawana:   I was a member of Team Emerge in the Distinctive Officers Program and since we were the first class, we were called the Mint Voyagers.     The program was established to identify and assist newer individuals in the role of leadership within the LGBT and LGBT friendly community.   This was accomplished by networking, a group project and developing new relationships with organizations within the community.   I was invited to join the group and I am glad that I did, it was a wonderful experience and I got an opportunity to meet a great group of individuals,  many of whom I will stay in contact with.

PGC:  What organization are you going to work with after this?

Tawana: One of the requirements of the program was also to get more involved with an organization and I have chosen DVLF to do this with.   I am super excited and ready to get started with the organization.

I know that everyone is proud of Ms. Grayson for accepting this leadership and we are excited to see what this fresh face in the community is going to do in the future.
