That’s Gay: Brittany Covers the Events of the week

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

Hey kids!

You know how it goes – no rest for the wicked! Every summer I try to snatch a break and take a little time off to reflect on how I’m going to conquer even more of our amazing city – BUUUUUT – the demand is high for Philly’s Phavorite Phamily – as well as some of my gayest girlfriends breaking out into their own shows. You know me and my girls always have our drag claws in something at all times! Here’s the gay dish on what’s coming up – and THAT’S GAY!

Lisa Lisa – the girl so nice they named her twice: Known for Philly's cult favorite and longest running drag show – Thursday's at Bob and Barbara's (1509 South Street for you newbies) – is now trying out a new Monday twist. Every second Monday of the month Lisa will be presenting an open call show for amateurs and professionals. With a different theme each month, no cover, and a buffet that includes some mean greens – you know I'll be there with a plate and a to go container.

Aloe Vera and Roxi Starr have really put together a gay ole’ show for Monday nights with Icandy’s Drag Arena. Mondays have always been a drag, and a hard night to gather a gaggle of gays – but this duo is bringing out all the queens with the tease of $100 prize money and a guest hosting spot. Queens spin the wheel to find the song they are going to perform to – each week has a different theme. Audience members are given five coins each, and can toss them into a bucket while their favorite queen performs – or give a tip (each dollar equals one vote) – and the buckets are counted to see which lady has the most votes to decide the winner. The winner comes back the following week to co-host and gets $100. Just don’t be a shady queen and try to pad your bucket with money from your purse – the girls will all know and they will READ…Let’s make it a fair game…

– Speaking of fair game – Tuesday nights are home to the new cabaret/singing/dancing/burlesque – ing (yeah that's a word) Fair Game! I joined up with Peek – A – Boo Revue’s Joey Martini, and the sexiest chick I know Honeytree Evileye, to develop a five – week showcase chock full of this city’s best and brightest. Joey, Honeytree, and myself have each chosen ten performers, and will showcase two of our performers each week (six total each show). One out of the two we each showcase will move to a second performance that night (audience picks), and then one of those three will be picked (again by the audience) to move on to having their own show at Tabu in September! All of the performers receive a second booking at the Tongue in Cheek Cabaret – in the end, it’s all Fair Game. (See how I did that lol.) Honeytree Evileye celebrates her birthday with us on the opening night – happy birthday beautiful – we will have some hot tots with a candle in it waiting for you!

– Mega producer Brad Hurtado has teamed up with Philly’s biggest promoter Bruce Yelk to produce Atlantic City’s hottest party – Sand Blast – on July 17th – 19th. An entire weekend of dancing, dj’s, and the tri – state area’s best eyecandy – not to mention the diva herself miss Margret Cho!

I’ll be hosting an 11am show on the beach followed by the handbag toss and high heel race – leading up to Sunday’s main event dance party at the same spot with DJ Mike Reimer (DC) and Phil Romano (Rome). Catch Philly faves Mary D’Knight, Aloe Vera, Roxi Starr, Donna Ria, Sasha Magnolia, and my Miss’d America sisters Morgan Wells and Alexia Love. My bestie DJ Carl Michaels will be with us spinning to make sure we all sound gorgeous and to get the crowd pumped. Check out this GAYYYYY promo video with some shots from last year’s event.

Ariel Versace's bi – monthly show Fish Tank is stepping outside the net and is bringing Splash Zone to Tabu on July 31. This fish has been performing here in Philly for two years now and has become "the mermaid that everyone loves to hate…" (Her words). With her single, "Venemous" getting attention on a lot of the gay blogs and her quest to be on RPDR getting even MORE attention, Ariel is bringing Philly a night to get gay boy and girls completely wet! The mermaid found a moment to stop talking about her self to talk with me about her event… "Splash Zone is going to be without a doubt the HOTTEST party this summer", Ariel told me while applying four more pounds of makeup. "Bubble machines, drag queens, life guards, limbo contests, photo booths, you name it! It's going to be one giant party. I like my shows to be very interactive, and have the audience feel like they are just hanging out with a bunch of friends! Plus it doesn't hurt that Jake, our life guard will be walking around "lei – ing" everyone in a speedo all night! I'm also super pumped about the demand of this show. We are now offering VIP tickets for $14 (regular admission is $9) and you get a whole Peru package! Early admission, lei necklace, beach ball, LED drinking cup, and guaranteed seating to the stage show! On that note, the show is going to be amazing! We even have some well known social media queens performing including BibleGirl666 and Aquaria! We also have some Philly favorites including Satine Harlow, Mary D'Knight and more!" Catch the shiny, scaly mermaid magic here:

Can a girl get a minute to catch her breath? I guess not, so I’ll be seeing you kids out and about all month long! For lots more drag happenings, check my site Phillydragmafia.com

Love and lashes,

Brittany Lynn
