Philly AIDS Thrift and Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room have just awarded $372,000+ in grants to 33 HIV/AIDS service organizations in the Delaware Valley, supporting programs centered on prevention and care. With the challenging times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, these much-needed funds are more crucial than ever.
The recent donations bring Philly AIDS Thrift’s lifetime total to an incredible $4M in donations and grant awards since its founding in 2014. To celebrate this major milestone, the organization is holding a two-day public celebration on February 24th and 25th, featuring discounts, refreshments, and joyful madness at both locations.
In addition to their grant program, Philly AIDS Thrift operates two retail thrift stores that support communities affected by HIV/AIDS. The main retail space at 710 S. 5th Street features thousands of items on three floors in the heart of the South Street Headhouse District. Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room features thrift items and new books, continuing the legacy of Giovanni’s bookstore.
Philly AIDS Thrift’s grant program started in 2014, and despite the COVID crisis, has been able to award over 200 grants and help over 40 different organizations. The organization’s next call for grant proposals will occur toward the end of 2023.
