Mannheim Steamroller Christmas energizes New Brunswick

Although retired since 2014, I still relish opportunities to teach, write, and share opinions.
Sunday, December 10, was a day not fit for man or beast to be out and about. However, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas blasted into The State Theatre of New Jersey through sheets of pouring rain. With its celebrated light, video, and music show, it pleased its many diehard fans who packed The State Theatre of New Jersey for both of its Sunday shows.

The program was a large glossy hand-out, rather like those we all see mailed to us a few months before Election Day by candidates who hope for reelection.
We discovered that there are several Mannheim Tours currently crisscrossing the nation. There is a Red Tour and a Green Tour, giving over 90 performances in the USA. From all appearances, we experienced the Green Tour led by Becky Kia-Mills, Conductor/Violin, with Roxanne Layton, Percussion/Recorder, Brian Czach, Drums, with Edward Berry and Mark Nelson on Keyboards, along with members of a backup orchestra.
We read on the program handout that there was also a touring company resident at Universal Orlando for two weekends in December, and that there is a Mannheim Steamroller Channel on Sirius XM, according to their website,

The program included such Pop/Rock/Classical numbers as “Joy To The World.” “Greensleeves,” “Mannheim Steamroller Christmas,” and many more during the 120-minute show. In 2019, Mannheim Steamroller celebrated its 35th Christmas Tour, and they are the Number One Chtistmas Music Artists of all Time with 31 million albums sold. Mannheim Steamroller Christmas items are for sale on their website.

All said, there were many happy and devoted fans who left the auditorium walking on air.

The State Theatre of New Jersey continues its season with dozens more offerings. American Repertory Ballet’s Nutcracker is now on stage until December 17. Come From Away on stage January 5-7, then Eagle Mania January 12, Annie, February 2-4, and much more.
