Independence Squares’ LGBTQ+ Square Dance Open House

Come join us to learn how much fun LGBTQ+ square dancing can be! If you’re curious about square dancing, but have zero experience, then this open house is for you!

We’ll walk you through the basics of square dancing and, we hope, leave you wanting more. Some highlights of dancing with an LGBTQ+ club like ours include: 

• No need for a partner: We have plenty of singles and couples. If you come alone, you’ll always have someone to dance with.
• No rigid gender roles: If the caller says “Ladies trade”, the two people trading are dancing the woman’s part, but might or might not be women. And they might not be dancing the woman’s part next time they form a square.
• Straight-friendly: You can dance with us regardless of where you fall on the sexual orientation or gender spectrums, including if you’re straight.
• No dress code: We mostly dance in jeans and t-shirts, so you can wear what you like. We do know how to throw a great costume party though.
• All sorts of music: We dance to rock, country, show tunes, jazz and R&B. It all depends on what the caller might spring on us next. So if you’d like to be able to say that you’ve square danced to “Born to Run”, “Born this Way” or “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”, come check us out. Who knows what music might play next?
