LGBTQ+ Night OUT for DRACULA: A Comedy of Terrors
New Hope Celebrates presents an LGBTQ+ Night OUT for Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, a wild, fast-paced, laugh-out-loud reinvention of the classic vampire tale filled with outrageous humor and quick-change performances. Join fellow LGBTQ+ community members for a preshow reception from 7:00-8:00 PM featuring cocktails and light bites, followed by the 8:00 PM curtain at Bristol Riverside Theatre.
Jonathan Harker, a timid English real-estate agent, travels to Transylvania to meet his strange new client, Count Dracula. Dracula soon makes his way to England, where Mina becomes mysteriously ill. Her sister Lucy and Jonathan call in vampire hunter Dr. Jean Van Helsing, and they set off after Dracula.
The big difference from normal Dracula is that it’s deliberately ridiculous rather than scary. It has sexual humor, pop-culture jokes, gender-bending roles, frantic costume changes, and actors playing multiple characters. The writers describe the style as a mixture of Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and The 39 Steps. It’s about 90 minutes long.
So think sexy Dracula + gay/camp sensibility + slapstick + farce, rather than a serious vampire story.
