Balena Canto is a Philadelphia drag queen, live singer, host, and producer known as the city’s seductive song-wielding siren with a voice snatched for the gods. Inspired by drag, opera, musical theatre, 60s and 70s variety TV, cemeteries, and whales, Balena brings a theatrical, funny, and emotionally rich style to every performance. Born on the southern coast of Italia and carried to Philadelphia by a humpback whale, Balena has made Philly home and built a reputation for delivering joy, laughter, and the occasional tear through the transformative power of song.
A versatile entertainer, Balena is especially known for live singing, but also shines in lip-sync performance, sketch and improv comedy, and as a host and emcee. Performing professionally since 2019, she has appeared across Philadelphia, the tri-state area, and beyond with a wide range of drag, opera, and arts organizations. She is also a prolific nightlife producer behind themed shows at venues across the city, with concepts ranging from nerdy pop culture tributes to campy horror spectaculars.
