An Unlikely Trio Await Audiences at GayFest Production of ‘The New Century’

What do a Long Island supermom to three LGBT kids, a late-night cable show host from Palm Beach, and an obsessive crafter from the Midwest have in common?  Paul Rudnick’s play The New Century, which makes its Philadelphia premiere at this year’s GayFest, explores the relationship between these three seemingly unrelatable characters.  The comedy plays August 15 through the 24 at Second Stage at the Adrienne Theatre.

The New Century, which is directed by GayFest’s executive producer, Rich Rubin, features a wide gamut of regional performers, including Elaine Fydrych, R. Eric Thomas, Will Connell, Layne Marie Williams, and Peggy Smith.

According to the play’s producers, the three characters “first  […] tell their hilarious and touching stories.  Then they all come together […] for an uproarious final scene.”

In a recent New York Times review of the play, the publication stated, “The one-liners fly like rockets […] Mr. Rudnick turns stereotypes into bullet-deflecting armor and jokes into an inexhaustible supply of ammunition.”

The New Century features sets designed by Danielle Ferguson, lighting by Eric Baker, and costumes by John Hodges.

Second Stage at the Adrienne Theatre is located at 2030 Sansom Street in Philadelphia.  For more information, or to purchase tickets, please visit www.quinceproductions.com or call 215-627-1088.
