The Fall Season in Arts and Entertainment

The new 2014-2015 season is now under way as far as subscribing is concerned. A few venues have already begun their seasons. Here is a rundown of some of our favorite venues, with internet addresses, and a selection of their offerings for our readers.

Theatre

Bucks County Playhouse’s 2014 season began with "Chapter Two," and "Deathtrap." "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" will play July and August, while "Ain’t Misbehavin’" will appear August and September. Lea De Laria and Livingston Taylor will appear in September at the jazz fest. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" will be their Halloween offering. Walnut Street Theatre will begin its season in September with "9 to 5: The Musical," to be followed by "Mary Poppins" during November through early January. "Private Lives" plays January through March followed by "And then there were none" in March and April. "Memphis" concludes the season and runs May through July.

Bristol Riverside Theatre begins its season on September 30 with "the 39 Steps" which runs until October 26. The following will be presented: November 11 to 30, "Lost in Yonkers," January 22 through February 22, "Always: Patsy Cline," March 17 through April 12, "Ragtime," and "An Enemy of the People" from May 12 through 31.

Mauckingbird Theatre Company of Philadelphia will produce a queer-inspired "Love’s Labor’s Lost," August through September. http://www.mauckingbird.org/2014-season.html

Music

Philadelphia Chamber Music Society offers a phenomenally luscious and artistically ambitious season. Their first few concerts at the Perelman Theater at The Kimmel Center include a recital by Mark Padmore with Jonathan Biss, and recitals by the Juilliard, Belcea, and Ebene Quartets.

The Rrazz Room offers an array of talent this fall, beginning with Adam Pascal on August 31, Karen Akers on September 20, and The Kinsey Sicks in December.

Dance

Pennsylvania Ballet begins with "Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9," followed by evenings devoted to Jerome Robbins and "Swan Lake."
