Lea DeLaria : Bridge Street Concert Series

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania, hosts an array of jazz greats from September 18 through 21 during their Jazz Fest 2014.

Beginning with the “Dirty Bourbon River Show” on the 18th, to Livingston Taylor on the 21st, you can choose individual and group tickets, cabaret table seating, and VIP meet-and-greet packages. Call (215) 862-2121.

The “Dirty Bourbon River Show” leads the way on the 18th with what they themselves term, “sounds that range from hard-edged blues to Lisztian piano-driven ballads to New Orleans brass.”

September 19 brings the Eric Mintel Quartet.  Eric Mintel has performed for President Clinton at the White House, and has over ten appearances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  A Bucks County favorite, Eric has appeared to sold-out crowds at Crossing Vineyards and Winery, and the James A. Michener Museum.

New Hope Celebrates presents the indomitable, the indestructible, super lesbian Lea DeLaria on the 20th.  Last seen in New Hope at the Bucks County Playhouse in “Mame” as Mame’s lesbian sidekick (an acting stretch, for sure) she has become a star with the Netflix series, “Orange is the New Black.” Lea has appeared on the television series “Californication,” “Will and Grace,” “One Life to Live,” and “Matlock.”  Lea DeLaria has also appeared on stage in many productions, perhaps most eerily as both (at different times) Eddie and Dr. Scott in “The Rocky Horror Show.”

Bringing the series to a fine conclusion will be Livingston Taylor on Sunday, September 21. Livingston Taylor has been a major recording and performing artist for over 40 years, with such great hits as “I Will Be in Love With You,” “I’ll Come Running,” “I Can Dream of You,” and “Boatman.”  Coming from a musical family which includes James and Kate Taylor, Livingston Taylor has just released his latest album, “Blue Sky.” He has taught for years at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.  Many of his students appear on his website under the heading, “New Noise.”
