Kathy Griffin talks about Anderson Cooper, Chris Christie, Kelley Osbourne, and what LGBTQA means to her

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

Winner of a Grammy, two Emmys and a Guinness World Record, comedienne, actress, author, and diva Kathy Griffin will appear at several venues in the area between New York City and Delaware in early February. She will appear at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (Bergen PAC) on February 12, followed the next day by an appearance at The State Theatre in New Brunswick, so New Jersey is doubly graced by her presence. Kathy Griffin is at Westbury, New York on the 14th, and then appears in Wilmington, Delaware, on February 15. Kathy Griffin took the time to speak to us about how much she loves "her gays."

Kathy Griffin: "I think it's great how far you've come in your struggle, but you also have so very far to go. I love the ‘LGBTQA' business. I know I'm an "A" because I'm an "Ally." How many letters are you? Good. I'm glad that you're at least two letters. I think it's great that there are gay publications, out there, spreading the word. I have to say that the people who come to my appearances in New Jersey and Florida rock! Why do you think that is? Isn't Florida a conservative place?"

RM: "I know a lot of New Jersey guys who either travel to or own a place in Florida. It could be that they visit their parents who live in Florida. Many progressive-minded people have moved to Florida from the Northeast, so …"

KG: "I think you're the first person I ever heard call Florida progressive. That could be it! So why did the folks in Jersey elect someone like Chris Christie? In my show, I'll be sure to give my opinions about the New Jersey Governor. I hear he is trying to be President again. Doesn't he know it's the Oval Office, and not the Round Office? I hope he's ready to take it on the chins."

RM: "Governor Christie is one of the great media whores."

KG: "Well, so are the Kardashians, but they aren't running for President."

RM: "Speaking of … media personalities … tell us about your secret, passionate affair with Anderson Cooper. This New Year's Eve celebration was the eighth time you two were together and sharing a special moment."

KG: "By now, my feelings about Anderson Cooper are not secret. He's a hot slab of man meat, who's a 3 (referring to a man who is midway on the Kinsey scale), a gay man who clearly desires Kathy Griffin. It's clear to everyone that this is true. Like another Kinsey 3, Ryan Seacrest (whatever sexuality he claims to be), he is another volcano waiting to erupt, hopefully on someone else."

RM: "Is your TV co-host, Kelly Osbourne, anything like Anderson Cooper?"

KG: "Kelly Osbourne is absolutely nothing at all like Anderson. She's wonderful, open, and full of adventure and sense of fun, and so is her mother, a good friend of mine. Anderson is all buttoned up; Kelly is all Velcro, ready to pop at any moment. But don't be fooled; Anderson is just waiting for the right person — namely me – to allow him to bloom. You know, he calls his hair "The Money-maker? You know what that means? It's a term used in porn films. Oh, you know what it means? That figures! Did you see him wear that silly hat on TV? It makes him look like one of the cast members of ‘Newsies.' He's trying so hard to protect that hair of his. That's a hot one. I'm telling you, if he spends the night with me, there won't be one-tenth of him left. I'll take him down to the knob."

RM: "I'm sure Mr. Cooper appreciates hearing your feelings about him. On another note, can you say something about your album?"

KG: "Yes! You must mean my Grammy-award-winning comedy album ("Calm Down, Gurrl"), in addition to my two Emmy Awards, a rarity in the music business for a woman to win a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. "Look at Your Butt Crack," another album, is a wholesome, tasteful comedy adventure no one should miss. I look fabulous on the cover of the album, but kids nowadays download it, so they should be careful to look at how great I look."

RM: "Ms. Griffin, do you have any parting comments for your legions of fans?"

KG: "Why people bring their children to my appearances, I can never figure out. I perform material focused on what adults should and do find funny. Why bring children? You know, there are disclaimers posted in the lobby at almost every theatre I appear in, that material with a mature theme will be presented, which I think is a hoot. I wish someone would stand up and leave, indignant at what I've said. That would be great! I'm looking forward to the great crowds I have in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Come and have a great time."

Kathy Griffin will appear at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ, on February 12. For more information, visit their website, http://www.bergenpac.org/events/detail/kathy-griffin
