And the Winner Is….

Miss Information sees al and knows all. I’m a gossip queen that keeps your fellow Philly homos informed!

Are you as sick with the writer’s strike as I am? Well luckily PhillyGayCalendar has the only award show going. Last Saturday, everyone came out for the Second Annual Best of Gay Philly Awards and honey it was a who’s who of Gay Philly. Of course Miss Information was there. You might have seen me in the back making out with Brittany Lynn, or sneaking off to the DJ booth to seduce Carl Michaels (I will have you Mr. Michaels, us drag queens always get our man!)

Pure Nightclub was packed with hundreds of people excited to see who would be the winners of these awards. The night started off with the fabulous and handsome Steve McCann taking the stage in his tux. First time I have ever seen him without jeans on, but he did look cute as a button. Maybe I will stop chasing after Carl and set my sites on Steve….you had your chance DJ Carl. Mr. McCann worked the crowd and announced that over 1,500 voted were cast. Now Miss Information is impressed that 1,500 of you queens would come together for anything…besides complaining about Woody’s.

Before I had downed my first apple-tini, the fierce and fabulous Brittany Lynn took the stage with a live rendition of Rocket Man. Who knew that bitch had pipes? Standing 19 feet tall, she was joined once again but Mr McCann as they announced the winners. Now Miss Information noticed that not all the winners were on hand (I’m looking at you Valanni! No more quick stops for ecstasy martinis at your little bistro!) but those that were jumped to the stage to get their award.

Valanni won for Best Restaurant, for a second year in a row. Best Bartender went to adorable little Ryan Durham from 12th Air. He came late, after the show, but he’s cute so we will let him get away with it, but Miss Information wants a free dirty martini next time she’s at 12th! For Best Sports Team, the prize went to the Falcons Soccer team. I always like boys with nice legs. Best Brunch went to Sisters for their fabulous all-you-can eat buffet! Best Happy Hour went to Bump, and take it from me, my little lambs, Miss Information has stumbled her way out of many a Bump Happy Hour.

The next award was for Best DJ that went to the ever cute and sassy Carl Michaels that was spinning that night. Double duty as nominee and DJ, so multi-talented! Looking high up into the DJ booth, Steve McCann presented him with the award. Carl made some type of speech, something about being Brittany Lynn’s illegitimate love child – I knew that bitch was old, but really!

Next to take the stage was the amazing Miss Salotta Tee, back from her tour on American Idol. She donned a pair of fairy wings (which I think she got from the boys from Gay Bingo) and rocked out to ‘I Need a Hero’ from the movie Shrek. She stomped so hard on the stage I thought she was gonna fall right through to the Pink Lounge and crush poor Natasha (who looked shimmering in her disco ball-esque gown).

Award for Best Place to Drink went to Tavern on Camac for a second year, and while they may not be the same without that diva Stacey Vey, they still serve a DAMN good drink. Pure pulled it off for Best Place to Dance, also for a second year. You can’t beat them with some of the best DJ’s in the country that spin.

The next award went to Best Ongoing Event. Gay Bingo pulled out a win with Kelley Groves and friend from Gay Bingo running on stage like screaming 9 year old girls to collect the award. Miss Information hasn’t seen a boy scream that much since … well never you mind!

Best Special Event went OUTFest, and while the the Philadelphia institution Franny Price wasn’t on hand, she sent two adorable boys to collect on her behalf. The Best Place to Shop went to PHAG, and as always the adorable Jason Crook and Dominc Mignone were on hand – you just want to eat them up. (Lord knows I have tried!)

The next award was a new one – Person of the Year. Miss Information was all excited, since I voted for both of them…twice! Perry Monastero and Stacey Sobel came as each other’s date (closeted hetero I tells ya!) and in the end there can be only one. The winner was Perry Monastero! Being ever so modest Perry gave a little speech thanking everyone but himself….gotta love that little man!

Then of course there was the Best Drag Queen of the Year and as a queen myself, I know how exicting it can be. Last year’s winner, Areyanna Von Moi hit the stage in a fabulous black gown showing just enough cleavage to make the lesbian drool and the gay men want to play with them. The winner was….. Salotta Tee! So fairy wings and all, Salotta thanked the crowd and the community for voting for her. The other nominees were very happy for her (yeah right!)

Over all Miss Information had a great time. Got a few free drinks from Frankie down stairs, hung out with Miss Areyanna Von Moi comparing bra sizes (she won!) and spend the rest of the night trying to figure out if that ripped muscle bartender Parker was REALLY straight – no one can resist Miss Information.

So until next year my little peanuts, go out and congratulate some of the fabulous winners of the Best of Gay Philly 2007. Once again the winners are below.
