Top 5: Gay Brunch!

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

Here at the Calendar, we like to provide guides for some of our readers' favorite things to do, and what is one of Philly's most favorite past time than cheesesteaks… errr brunch. I mean brunch! SO we thought we'd give you a count down of some of the best places for some weekend recovery and/or more imbing with little bias.

We had a tie for number 5 and both are fantastic especially if you're looking for something different:

#5 Indeblue

205 S 13th St,
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 545-4633

On the prowl for something exotic to whet your whistle? Or simply looking for a relaxed atmosphere with some live music to ease into your Sunday? Either way, this is the place that you want to be. The paneer bhurjee to munch on and the karma chai sutra are the perfect way to prep for grocery shopping.

#5 Knock
225 S 12th St,
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 925-1166

For those of children of the daylight, ie those of you that are capable of a tan, Knock has one of the best outside seating areas in the Gayborhood. Situated right along Locust Street, you're likely to get your weekly tanning session in, right along with your BAE (bacon and eggs).

#4 Green Eggs Cafe
212 S 13th St,
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(267) 861-0314

There's a reason for that line halfway around the block starting at 10am every weekend – rain or shine! I like to infer it's from the red velvet pancakes, but it could be from one of the other amazingly decadent foods that populate the menu (I'm a fan of the veggie benedict). When you're looking to stuff your face on a warm summer day before laying around in one of Philadelphia's many parks, Green Eggs Cafe is certainly worth the wait!

#3 Pennsylvannia 6
114 S 12th St,
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(267) 639-5606

Situated a little closer to Market Street than most would like, this place, handsdown, has some of the swankiest breakfast cocktails in the city. I urge you to have your morning coffee and rum too. Afterall, how else are you supposed to top off that Penn 6 omlette?

#2 Valanni
1229 Spruce St,
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 790-9494

This list wouldn't be complete without Gayborhood staple, Valanni. They do brunch in ways that I think only Pennsylvannia 6 could compete with, which is probably why both are on opposite ends of our favorite homosexual abode. This is the place to bring your sassy self for that weekend, kickball pregame.

#1
Drag Brubch at Tabu
200 S 12th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 964-9675

I CANNOT pick one thing that makes me happier than eating tater tots and watching people in brightly colored costumes dancing  around. It takes me back to Saturday morning cartoons – watching 1990s X-men and eating Cap'n Crunch. Delightful if not, maybe, a little biased (see paragraph 1 for warning). Either way, tater tots. TATER TOTS!

Jonathon Edmunds, does waaaaay more reading than writing these days… Little known fact is that he's actually published. One of Philadelphia's strangest artists, a champion of the Oxford comma, and cat connoisseur, you can often find his social media full of his doodles, his cat, and things he'd shake his head or a stick at. Jonathon has also spent most of his life eating food, and being the millenial that he is, considers himself qualified to comment on everything from restaurants to food trucks… and hot pockets.
