Hearts On A Wire is a grassroots inside/outside prison advocacy organization built by and for transgender and gender-variant people, working to address the needs of trans people incarcerated in Pennsylvania’s prisons. The group publishes a free quarterly newsletter mailed directly to incarcerated and detained trans and gender-variant people across the state, carrying their own writing, artwork, and advocacy.
The organization’s broader goal is a movement toward gender self-determination, racial and economic justice, and an end to the policing and imprisoning of LGBTQ+ communities. Hearts On A Wire meets weekly (currently Mondays, alternating virtual and in-person) at William Way Community Center, and is fiscally sponsored by the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania.
