Liberty Pa 2014 Celebrates a Tom Wolf Win

Executive Director of PhillyGayCalendar

I secretly kept an "election monitor" minimized on my computer, and when the professor of my night class would make his rounds to the other side of the classroom I'd quickly check to see if the little Pennsylvania shaped icon had turned Red, signifying a Tom Corbett win, or Blue, meaning a Tom Wolf win. This was the first non-primary election I had voted in, and I wanted to know if I made a difference.

When class was dismissed I promptly made my way to Rosewood, I was mis-informed that a celebration (or commiseration) would be happening at the "classier Woody's." When I arrived the place was empty, and by this point my phone had died. I did what I had to do in order to get the answer I was looking for… I journeyed over to "Tom Wolf Headquarters" on Walnut Street. I was greeted with my answer, a giant sign on the door that read "We Won."

I baited the boys to come outside for a quick picture and a celebratory hug. They let me know that they had received the call right after 8pm, 8:02pm to be exact. I had the chance to talk with Rick Naughton, the Executive Director of Liberty PA 2014, he was more than happy to thank the community, "We're extremely grateful and want everyone to understand that this was a community effort. We couldn't have done this without the support from our friends and allies."

I took note of their smiles, each genuine and each seemingly relieved. I asked Dashiell Seas, the Associate Director, how he felt, "I'm happy that PA used their voice for a fresh start. It's clear… People want a fresh start." The atmosphere in that office felt light, come to think of it, the entire city seemed a bit brighter on my walk home, here's to hoping this feeling sticks around for a long time
